In a small town with less than 14,000 residents, a remarkable event took place. A small group of volunteers came together to create an event that would support their local food banks. And what started as a simple idea turned into an 11-day event that brought the community together, generated thousands of dollars and pounds of food donations, and most importantly, created community spirit, enthusiastic participation, creativity, and fun.
The community launched the Sharecrows program by placing scarecrow displays around town, where residents could donate food and participate in the event. The creativity was contagious, and soon the entire town was transformed into a fun and interactive food bank drive event. The program's success was evident, as more and more people registered to participate in this unique and engaging community initiative.
Despite launching during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sharecrows program was a receptive, interactive, and all-inclusive way for the community to safely come together and support their local food banks. Four years later, the program continues to inspire and benefit the community, bringing about positive change and creativity, and fostering a shared community spirit.
